Mission 3 - Methodology

Brief and Conclusions
Blog post 3/3 - Digital Journalism
10/12/19

I found that this mission was the one that I enjoyed the most as it really tested my Creativity and made me think outside the box, and once again brainstorming my ideas on a mind map was very
useful. It forced me to jot down ideas and evaluate them. We met up and shared our ideas and after brainstorming and evaluating I felt like I was a lot more prepared. We chose the name "Celebrity Addict" for our mission, as we found it catchy. I learned that I had a lot more creativity than I thought and that itself made this mission a lot more enjoyable to work on.

Working on the mission with the girls in my group really brought another perspective of humour that I really found funny and humorous (my family and friends had a lot of fun teasing me about my cringy acting).

Another aspect of digital media I quite enjoy is the process of filming, as far as I can remember, I love being in front of the camera.

When we chose the idea that we were going to pursue I had every detail planned out, from the clothes to the sunglasses. Another aspect of filming I absolutely loved was the research for editing, I learned a lot on how editing works and how everything is layered to make a perfect

Something I would change about this mission if I could is stating my goals and expectations for the mission, and also giving a brief explanation to what Digital Journalism is, in the video.

In conclusion, digital journalism has definitely changed the investigative form of journalism. From our research, we came to the conclusion that the introduction of digital media has made journalism as a whole a more conversational, and interactive as readers seek to contribute to the story. The introduction of social media has really prioritized the opinion of the readers, so much so that the reader's comments dictate the next stories and delivery of the stories. The time and space offered by the Internet have provided opportunities for these conversations to take place, and for journalists to make raw material available to fuel them. Celebrity stories are more popular amongst teenagers so as a result of that, hosts would be more reluctant to adapt to the teenage slang and ”cool” way of speaking.

Digital journalism has changed amongst the years and affected many lives, especially those of the celebrities, sometimes the stories or headlines are exaggerated by ten times which can end up ruining the celebrity’s image and or reputation permanently. An example of this is when someone acted as Travis Scott and was kissing a random woman, the internet jumped to conclusions and accused Travis of cheating. Both Travis and Kylie spoke out saying how much that stunt hurt them, and the person who pulled this stunt, publicly apologized to Kylie and Travis and claimed hurting them was not his intention. I think celebrities privacy should always be respected, the internet doesn’t need to know everything about their lives and that we shouldn’t be quick to jump to conclusions and believe every headline or article we read.

All in all, this mission was really fun to do and very informative.

We watched our video with our class on the 12th of December.
