Mission 2 - Culture

Brief and Conclusion
Blog post 3/3 - Digital Privacy

I learned a lot from this mission, which is always a plus, this mission has been the most rewarding knowledge wise.

Being able to communicate comfortably with the team also really helped to work through this mission.

I learned things I hadn't known before or hadn't realised. I found that note taking and research helped a lot in this mission unlike the last one, this one majorly relied on research. In our first meet up after becoming a group and deciding what topic we chose, we met up in the canteen for an hour or so and talked about how we were going to prepare for our presentation.

We spoke about what we would research, if we were going to be given different goals or work together on the overall project.
After that was done we decided to make an open google slide so where ever we were we could all add work to the slide and we could all see what was added to the slide.

We all researched the same topic, with the goal to find out as much as we could about digital privacy through different websites and articles, to develop a basic, I think equal contribution by all the team is needed with these missions so the fact that we had the shared google document for our research was a great idea.
We gathered information from different platforms about the chosen topic as a foundation for our slide presentation, with keeping records of all the websites for references, ready to cite the information if asked, we had this websites linked at the bottom of the slides we used the internet for.
What I hoped to achieve in this mission is a basic understanding of what "Digital Privacy" actually means, how to protect my personal information online and on social media and to be able to give other people tips on how to protect their Personal Data online.

What I learned while doing this mission is; what websites such as facebook, snapchat, safari etc do with our personal data, how companies use this data to personalise advertisements to fit people’s interests using their data (our experiment proved this hypothesis) and online history and how we were all giving away our personal data without knowing what we were doing.

The experiment was the most fun thing that was done in this mission, for me, as the results kind of shocked me, I was expecting to get an ad on our searched item but not as fast as we did though, it was very interesting and made this mission so worth it.

In conclusion, l’m glad I did this mission, it helped me learn a lot about data privacy and made me more aware of the information I’m giving away to websites and how to be more careful, so now instead of just accepting all cookies on certain websites, I read the, first then accept or reject based on what they’re asking for.
